This early watercolor of mine showcases my newly discovered (in the spring of 1974) fascination with flat surfaces. Although the effect of the strong pull of the perspective is dizzying in the lower half of the picture, everything is still represented in a very rudimentary way (simple geometrical shapes, mostly triangles and squares).

The coloring scheme is strictly constrained to serve the overall lyrical atmosphere that permeates the whole scenery like a mist. The combination of gentle, transparent watery surfaces juxtaposed on the rough and barbaric dark brown patches gives this picture an unsettled feeling which invites the viewer to return to it more than would seem necessary at first.
